In late 2016, with President-Elect Trump promising to negotiate or end NAFTA, KHG worked with a global apparel brand on a proactive agenda to preserve a North American free trade arrangement that was critical to its business.
OUR APPROACH
KHG developed a strategy in December 2016 to organize a cross-industry effort to preserve and protect the NAFTA apparel supply chain. The effort brought together apparel brands and domestic textile manufacturers (industries typically at odds on trade issues) in an unprecedented joint effort to press the Administration and Congress on the importance of a NAFTA textile and apparel supply chain that supports hundreds of thousands of jobs across the United States. KHG organized dozens of meetings between our client and their domestic suppliers with Members of Congress and their staff and led to state delegation roundtables with the Congressional delegations of key textile states.
RESULTS
KHG's client assumed a leading role in efforts to avoid U.S. withdrawal from NAFTA, prevent the erosion of beneficial elements of the agreement during negotiations, and eventually pass USMCA through Congress in early 2020.
